Conserving to develop,
developing to conserve
A forest of opportunities
About us
We do not see the forest as just trees. We understand that ensuring the sustainability of the Amazon forest also means ensuring the integrity of its biodiversity and the development of its inhabitants. Therefore, we are committed to carrying out a productive conservation model strengthened by its efficiency and sustainability, and makes its communities prosper.
The jaguar (Panthera onca), known as Otorongo in Quechua, is an icon of biodiversity in the Peruvian rainforest. Its presence in an ecosystem is a key indicator of forest health and balance. Studies on this majestic species allow us to evaluate the conservation status of our concession areas. Thus, Conservación Otorongo has become a sanctuary for this species and all the other species that live in this unique ecosystem.
Get to know us
We are Conservación Otorongo SAC, a Peruvian company leader in conservation and sustainable forestry in the Amazon, with more than two decades of successful work, PROTECTING biodiversity and contributing to local economic development.
We have 183,015 hectares of primary Amazonian forests, geographically located in the province of Tahuamanu, department of Madre de Dios, Peru.
With a mega diversity of flora and fauna species, we are home to considerable populations of very valuable species for the ecosystem, which thrive under the shelter of our forest conservation strategy.
Current pressure from the expansion of agriculture and cattle ranching makes the forests of Conservación Otorongo SAC both an important germplasm bank for flora and a sanctuary for fauna migrating due to the destruction of their habitat.
We have international voluntary certification such as FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), CCB (The Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standards), avoided deforestation VCS (Verified Carbon Standard), Organic Products, among others.
This will allow us to achieve a productive conservation system now and for future generations that will improve living standards, conserve important areas of Amazonian forests and mitigate the causes of climate change.

To protect a unique natural ecosystem that hosts an extraordinary amount of biodiversity.
By conserving forests, we help to decarbonize the planet, avoiding the emission of greenhouse gases and contributing to mitigate the causes of climate change.

What do we do
We promote productive conservation
For the forest to remain a forest, we need people to live with it (and not at its expense) without degrading or destroying it.
To this end, we promote productive conservation, an approach in which environmental care goes hand in hand with national regulations and international standards for inclusive economic and social development.
Thus, we promote and train the population in circular and sustainable production models ranging from forest use to chestnut production, creating productive chains that generate sources of employment.

Our partnerships
We have alliances and partnerships that enhance our work. One of them is with The Jaguar Amazon REDD Project, a global initiative that aims to protect the jaguar in the Americas by conserving its habitat, reducing hunting and conducting scientific research.
